WILDERNESS SKIING& PRIVATE ACCESS...In the Bitterroots
west of Hamilton, Montana, Downing Mountain Lodge will be opening to overnight
guests in mid December 2009. Two thousand feet above Montana's Bitterroot Valley,
we are preparing the Downing Mountain Lodge for its second winter season as a
snow sports destination.Wood stove, fireplace, full kitchen, outside deck with
JACUZZI.
Three thousand vertical feet of mountain
rise directly behind the lodge. The backcountry terrain of Downing Mountain will
excite you. With 500 to 2500 vertical foot slopes ranging from intermediate to
advanced, put Downing Mountain Lodge at the top of your list of backcountry ski
lodges to visit. An average settled snow depth of three feet at the lodge by March
1 guarantees access on a snow covered road for one and a half miles. Uniquely,
the access road is private and the lodge property borders U.S. Forest service
lands immediately to the west. Atop Downing Mountain ridge, the northeast aspect's
first four bowls accumulate a 6-9 foot snowpack by March 1. Downing Mountain and
Canyon Peak rest along the further reaches of the ridge challenging ski mountaineers
with long days and fabulous bowl bouncing back to the quiet warmth of the lodge.
The log lodge is fully furnished, heated, and complete
with common room, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and a jacuzzi.With 360 degree
views of the Bitterroot Valley and Mountains, the lodge boasts eye candy to feed
the soul. $50/person weekend nights and holidays. $45 otherwise CHEF service available
